Known for their sustainable shampoo bars, The Earthling Co. has established themselves as a brand dedicated to creating products that promote a low-waste lifestyle. The Sisal Soap Saver Bag is a clear example of this commitment as it works to extend the life of their products by providing an easy way to use slippery bars that have diminished in size over time. The net material serves as an exfoliator as consumers can place their bars in the bag, run it under water, and lather up easily. This versatility is a key component to sustainability as the product fits multiple functions into one single item. With each bag derived from natural materials that are manufactured locally in the United States, it is clear that environmental protection is a priority for this company.

What it's made of:

The Sisal Soap Saver Bag is made up of two materials: naturally derived sisal from the agave plant and wood for the bead used to enclose it. When it comes to sustainable materials, sisal is at the top of the list as it is biodegradable and almost no pesticides or fertilizers are used in its cultivation. Both of these materials are 100% compostable and each bag comes in no additional packaging. All of The Earthling Co’s products are shipped plastic-free, instead using paper mailers or cardboard boxes made from recycled materials and are sealed with paper tape. The minimal amount of materials used in this bag is impressive and serves as a great example for how products can be sustainable while also being effective.

How it's made:

Each of the items produced by The Earthling Co. is manufactured within the United States at their facility in Colorado. This local production helps to decrease the company’s environmental footprint as transportation and in turn, carbon emissions are minimized. On their website they disclose that extensive research goes into the ingredients they use and they are “working to ensure total supply chain transparency, making sure all of [their] ingredients are sourced ethically.” I was unable to find any further information on certifications that support this statement, therefore it is difficult to tell if they are getting their materials from sustainable sources. Information on working conditions was also limited which is key in understanding the functionality of the company. Their commitment to total supply chain transparency is promising, however, I urge them to further progress with this initiative and address their working conditions so consumers can be appropriately informed.

Who makes it:

The Earthling Co. was founded in 2020 by Emelia DiBello and Kevin McQuiston. With sustainability in mind, the company sets its mission as offering affordable, plastic-free alternatives to everyday products. The Earthling Co. is notably Climate Neutral Certified and they provide detailed explanations of how they measure, offset, and reduce their carbon footprint on their website. They are also a member of 1% for the Planet, a global network of businesses and nonprofit organizations working to combat environmental issues. Being such a young company, it is inspiring to see the initiative they have taken to support the planet and transform the way consumers view the everyday product. As they continue to grow in size, it is imperative that they work to spread their message and further progress with their transparency as a whole.
