A Tesla Model 3 costs about $37,990. Each Tesla vehicle comes with a NEMA 5-15 adapter which charges on a regular household outlet; this provides 2 miles per hour of charging.  Level 2 outlets with an output of 220V delivers between 3.3 and 17.2kW of power and can provide 10-52 miles per hour of charging. Tesla Model 3s take between 8.5 and 10 hours to charge at 220V. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration Data, the national average price is 10.58 cents per kWh, or $0.11/kWh. Therefore, a full charge of can cost up to $18.92. Meanwhile, the most fuel efficient sedan of 2019, the 2019 Honda Civic is priced at $19,550. Its fuel tank capacity is 12.4 gallons. The average price of regular grade gas in the U.S. is $2.190 per gallon. A full tank would cost $27.156. ICE vehicles also require regular maintenance and replacement of parts. The additional costs may make a Tesla more affordable in the long run.
Compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, electric vehicles (EV) average life cycle emissions of EV’s
are significantly lower than ICE vehicles with EV’s averaging >200 grams of CO2 emissions per mile and ICE averaging <400 grams of CO2 emissions per mile in as many homes as possible. Since Tesla manufactures a unique set of energy products, Tesla buyers must be homeowners or business owners to install energy storage. EVs do not require a transmission system, which is better for the environment as transmission fluid is an air pollutant.

What it's made of:

Tesla is committed to accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Instead of writing annual sustainability reports that highlight future sustainability goals like other companies, Tesla’s environmental impact report reports on the impact Tesla’s products already have on the environment.

Tesla Model 3’s metal structure is a combination of aluminum, steel, and a glass roof that can resist four times its
own weight. Its carbon fiber spoiler improves stability at high speeds. Tesla Model 3 has all-wheel drive which uses two independent motors, one on each side of the axle. A single Tesla Model 3 weighs 4.036 lbs and seats 5 individuals. Almost all car parts can be recycled. A car at the end of its life cycles is usually sold to a junk yard or auto-recycling facility. However, an electric vehicle (EV) does not require much maintenance as many of the parts such as tires, battery, and motors can easily be replaced. The metals that provide the car with structure can also be recycled.
Tesla uses lithium-ion batteries for its car. More than half of a battery cell is made of metal, which is recyclable.
Tesla states that the other half is made of “plastics, organics, and other difficult to re-use materials.” Research to recycle all materials of battery cells is still undergoing. Tesla is currently using third-party recyclers for end-of-life batteries to recover metals. In the future, Tesla wants to develop a battery recycling system at Gigafactory Nevada to process battery manufacturing scrap and end-of-life batteries.

How it's made:

Tesla Gigafactories manufactures their own items such as battery packs, electric motors, and energy storage
products. By building Gigafactories around the world and utilizing local supply chains, Tesla reduces the cost of shipping and amount of transportation of parts, thus lowering its carbon emission of production.
Tesla prides itself on the safety, agility, and stability of their cars. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) awarded Tesla’s Model 3 a perfect 5-star rating in each of its safety categories. In 2019, Tesla vehicles earned 5-star ratings from safety rating agencies in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Tesla makes its cars safe with its addition of external cameras, sensors, onboard computing that enable safety features for Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Forward and Side Collision Warning, Obstacle-Aware Acceleration, blind spot warning, etc. These are improved through software updates.

Who makes it:

Tesla is successful in lowering carbon emissions since its vehicles are energy efficient, have lower fuel emissions than
internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, and uses solar energy and storage as its main source of energy to power vehicles. Tesla understands that their carbon footprint also comes from transportation of manufactured parts. A fully charged Tesla battery can last approximately 200 miles. Currently, Tesla does not have information on the average lifespan of their batteries since most batteries sent back to Tesla are defects in the manufacturing stage. Tesla is aiming to produce a battery with a lifespan of 1,000,000 miles (~4,000 - 5,000 charging cycles).
Tesla suppliers are required to provide evidence of management
ensure social, environmental, and sustainability practices. In the Tesla Conflict Minerals Report, Tesla lists the countries from where it sources its raw materials and also lists the facilities that are involved in its supply chain.
