Still Good Foods is a relatively new healthy snack brand that uses sustainability initiatives to stand out amongst the saturated market. The brand is zero-waste and actively educates consumers about what they can do to make a difference. I think the brand could be more transparent about their labor treatment and switch to some organic ingredients. Overall, I stand by their mission statement and agree that choosing their cookies will help save the planet. My overall rating for this product is a 2.8/3 planet score.

What it's made of:


These Choc Uppeel cookies are vegan-friendly and are made with a variety of clean ingredients. Perhaps most notable is the locally sourced bananas from Lufa Farms. Secondly, these cookies are made with unsweetened dark chocolate that contain cocoa butter and soy lecithin. Soy lecithin comes from soybeans and acts as a flavor protector which helps bind the cocoa and sugar together. However, you should avoid products with soy lecithin if you have a soy allergy. These cookies also use rolled oats as well as both white and brown sugars. Other ingredients include enriched wheat flour and three types of vegetable oil shortening (canola oil, modified palm oil, palm kernel oil). It would be healthier if the company opted for expeller pressed canola oil because it contains less chemical solvents such as hexane. The other two oils include palm oil which contains no trans fat and is healthier than butter. However, non-organic palm oil heavily contributes to deforestation. The cookies also use a bit of artificial vanilla extract and salt. Finally, this product uses spent grains both barley and wheat sourced locally from MaBrasserie. Overall the ingredients are healthy and do not directly harm animals in the process. I am rating this section a 2.6/3 planet score, taking away points for being neither organic or certified fair trade.

As previously stated, Still Good Foods values upcycling as one of their core principles. From banana peels to cardboard boxes, the company implements the upcycling ideology wherever it can. Still Good even encourages other companies to follow in their footsteps. They have a blog on their corporate website titled The Upcycling Blog. Here, the brand promotes eco-responsibility such as purchasing second-hand furniture for office spaces and shedding light on the hazards of fast fashion. I personally love the part where they teach readers how to reuse stale bread and transform it into crunchy garlic croutons! Moreover, Still Good Foods offers consumers the choice to purchase cookies in bulk, thereby reducing their carbon footprint from transportation. Due to the fact that Still Good Foods is a zero-waste company and advocates for sustainability I am rating this section a 3/3 planet score.

The brand offers a selection of healthy cookies that are both great for you and great for the planet. Something that sets Still Good apart from other healthy snack brands is the fact that the company operates with zero-waste. In doing so, Still Good reduces food waste by upscaling ingredients sourced from local companies and using premium biodegradable packaging. Furthermore, Still Good gives a hyperlink reference on its corporate website to their local suppliers. As stated on the website, they get their juice pulp from DOSE Juices, grains from MaBrasserie, and bananas from Lufa Farms. Beyond this, the company actually donates a percentage of their revenue directly towards supporting local and sustainable initiatives. Although Still Good Foods sources from local farms and donates to eco-friendly programs, there is a lack of information regarding their employees. Nowadays it is incredibly important for a company to disclose information about their labor treatment. For this reason I am rating this section a 2.7/3 planet score with some room for improvement.
