Hi! I’m Zoe Pellegrino, a junior English and Sociology double major at Connecticut College with a pathway concentration in Social Justice and Sustainability. I grew up just across the border in Rhode Island, where I love spending time by the ocean and on my favorite hiking trails. I am centrally interested in the Environmental Humanities, learning about and analyzing environmental crisis, environmental justice/injustice, and the natural world through literature and sociological insight. I believe that the interdisciplinary blending of scientific fact with the arts and social sciences allows for a greater focus on empathy, through the valuation of diverse narrative voices and intersectional identities. One of my more recent interests is the issue of how food waste negatively impacts social, economic, and environmental sustainability across the globe, as well as the food system at large. I’m currently conducting research on this topic through my Social Justice and Sustainability pathway, and I hope to further engage with the food system through some of my reviews. In my free time, I endeavor to spend as much time as possible outside, soaking up sunshine, going for long walks, playing soccer, or admiring sunsets :)
