Dear Tim Cook and Apple,
You cannot even begin to call yourself a “sustainable” company if your products only last a year and a half at the MOST.
Coming in at a whopping 159 USD, I would expect Apple AirPods to have amazing sound quality and be able to withstand the test of time, but that is unfortunately not the case. So if AirPods don’t last a very long time, certainly I can get them repaired for a reasonable price, right?
Nope.
With a warranty, Apple charges 96 USD to fix two buds and without a warranty, it costs 38 USD MORE than just buying new AirPods... WTF Apple?! Considering you drop new gadgets once a year, it seems a bit too convenient that old gadgets begin to die right when a new one releases...
News flash Tim: FAST TECH IS NOT SUSTAINABLE!!
I know that Greenpeace has given Apple an “A” for sustainability due to its energy efficiency within the supply chain, but this is not enough. You are responsible for the 7 million tons of e-waste generated every year that is polluting our waters (and this number is growing). Apple has the money to create durable, long-lasting, eco-friendly headphones, but you chose not to. We demand that Apple slow down its production line and focus on the durability and reparability of its products for a more sustainable future!
Yours sincerely,
Gen Z
xoxo
